The story of FitzChivalry, bastard grandson of the King of the Six Duchies, continues as attacks on the Coastal Duchies grow stronger and the horrifying Forged creatures (can't really call them human any more) roam the countryside.
Back at the palace, Fitz watches as the King grows weaker, the new King-in-Waiting pursues a likely impossible quest, and the King's spoiled and avaricious younger son plots and maneuvers to take over the throne.
