Hollow Bones

Not only has Piccoult given us another “ripped from the headlines” style story, but she’s woven in one of my all-time favorites of her books: My Sister’s Keeper. But don’t be fooled–this isn’t a sequel. Hollow Bones is its own story with its own trauma, joy, and redemption. Molly, born just two months before 9/11, has never known anything but disaster: from the tragedy that took her mom to the job she chooses. In trying to exert control over everything around her, she is completely unprepared for the changes that life throws at her. It is difficult to review this book without giving away a major plot twist, so I’ll just say that I loved it. Picoult is a master at looking at both sides of the decisions we make that have vast and often unintended consequences on everyone in our lives–especially ourselves. There is no right answer to any of the questions posed in this book, except this one: believe women when they tell you it is more than postpartum depression. We must take better care of pregnant and postpartum women!
